Nutrition/Food Security

Additional funding for these services would offset the significant match requirement and allow Local Catholic Charities organizations to continue providing crucial CalFresh Outreach and enrollment assistance services to Californians.

  • With $500,000 in funding, Catholic Charities could expand these services to at least 2,000 additional Californians, outreaching to eligible households and assisting them through the entire process of enrolling in CalFresh, increasing their ability to afford enough food. Increased food security means improved family health, stability, and functioning—at home, at work, at school, and in the community.
  • With an additional $75, Catholic Charities can provide a family with a series of nutrition education classes designed to help them optimize their CalFresh benefits by increasing their nutritional knowledge and skills and supporting them in making better food and activity choices within a limited budget.
