“A family from San Benito County were hit hard by the January 2024 winter storm and lost their primary source of income, as their place of work was severely damaged. When the family heard about the Storm Assistance for Immigrants (SAI) program, they reached out for support. Thanks to the financial aid provided by the program, the family was able to cover their immediate expenses, such as rent, utilities and groceries. This assistance brought them a sense of relief and stability during a difficult time. With the support they received, the family was able to focus on rebuilding their lives and finding new employment opportunities. The SAI program truly made a difference in the family’s life, and the lives of many others, who were affected by the storm. It provided them with means to recover and move forward with hope.”
“We had a family come in from Pakistan who are all seeking asylum. Two of their children are disabled and requires special needs – one daughter has schizophrenia and a son has a Traumatic brain injury (TBI). Not only did this family experienced damages to their home because of the winter storms, but they also had very low income during the time to fix the repairs. Their hours at work were cut back and they had less than $100 in their bank account. The SAI program was able to provide this family with the financial assistance they needed to start to recover. They were extremely happy and grateful for our support.”
