Local Catholic Charities organizations have been providing health coverage outreach, education, and enrollment assistance services for decades. Health coverage enrollment and utilization can be especially daunting for low-income individuals and families. Without the assistance of trusted non-profit social services organizations, like Catholic Charities, literally thousands of individuals and children each year would not enroll in health coverage or seek basic preventative health services. Timely enrollment in Medi-Cal or Covered California health coverage makes preventative care possible, and helps low income Californians avoid costly and traumatic health crises.
Since 2013, Catholic Charities of California has led several statewide programs to provide education, outreach, and enrollment assistance for Medi-Cal and Covered California Qualified Health Plans. These services focus on low-income, hard-to-reach populations, including undocumented immigrant youth, who are now eligible for Medi-Cal under State law. Local Catholic Charities organizations guide clients through the entire application process and even provide support and advocacy for clients to help them utilize their health benefits.
Catholic Charities of California has ranked top 10 among more than 850 State Certified Enrollment Entities for Medi-Cal and Covered California enrollments. Catholic Charities has helped over 10,000 people apply for healthcare coverage at more than 50 sites across the state. Participating local Catholic Organizations include Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Santa Rosa, Catholic Charities Diocese of Monterey, Catholic Charities Diocese of Stockton, Catholic Charities Diocese of San Diego, Catholic Charities of Los Angeles, Inc., and Catholic Charities San Bernardino & Riverside Counties.
