Since 2009, Catholic Charities of California and Local Catholic Charities Organizations (LCCOs) have been providing CalFresh outreach, education, and application assistance to low-income individuals and families. The CalFresh Food Program, also known as Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or SNAP, is California’s largest food program. Benefits from CalFresh supplement limited food budgets, allowing individuals and families to purchase more nutritious foods.
In 2023, The Catholic Charities Network in California prescreened over 40,000 individuals; submitted over 4,000 CalFresh benefit applications; and assisted over 500 individuals to maintain benefits through the recertification process. LCCOs provide CalFresh Food services in 17 counties: Fresno, Kern, Merced, Los Angeles, Yolo, Solano, San Diego, Imperial, Lake, Napa, Sonoma, Mendocino, San Joaquin, Stanislaus, Monterey, Santa Cruz, and San Luis Obispo.
