"I know that they will always be there to answer any questions or concerns to support me with whatever I need."

1 Client Challenge

Starting over in a new place can feel overwhelming, especially when you are trying to navigate complex systems on your own. But having someone who understands your language, culture, and experience can change everything.

When Claudia first came to NVCSS Promotores, she was unsure where to begin. As an asylee, she had been given instructions she could not navigate alone.

"We arrived seeking asylum with a lot of misinformation," Claudia recalls.

After fleeing violence in her hometown, she arrived carrying fear, trauma, and deep uncertainty. She was withdrawn, lacked confidence, and was afraid to leave her home.

2 Our Response

Through Promotores, Claudia received consistent, one-on-one support from one of our trained community health liaisons.

"They've has been on top of everything supporting me with various things," Claudia says. "They have informed me of things like informational meetings. They have notified me of programs like food distributions where they deliver food and groceries. They've also helped me a lot with things like Christmas, with gifts for my children. They are always keeping an eye on things if I need any help, she's there for me.

She was connected to legal guidance, food resources, and tools to help her navigate daily life.

With encouragement, she began taking small steps, getting out of the house and rebuilding her confidence.

3 The Outcome

A year later, that progress is clear.

"Being a part of the Promotores program gives me a sense of calm and peace," Claudia says. "I know that they will always be there to answer any questions or concerns to support me with whatever I need."

Today, Claudia moves around town on her own and has a stronger understanding of her asylum process. What once felt overwhelming is now manageable.

"I'm very grateful because they're always there for me."

Claudia’s story is a reminder that support is not just about services. It is about trust, relationships, and having someone walk alongside you.
