"Catholic Charities stepped up to the plate and hit a home run."
Dan was a victim of the 2019 Trona Earthquake that struck the northwest corner of San Bernardino County. The earthquake damaged the plumbing of his home which left him with very little options. Dan recalls, "I couldn't take showers. I couldn't do anything. The plumbing was really bad."
"I really thought I was not gonna be able to get through this time," he says. "I didn't have the money to replace what I needed to."
It was at a local high school where Dan met the disaster assistance relief team of Catholic Charities.
Catholic Charities provided Dan the resources to get a new water heater to provide relief to him in his time of critical need.
He recognizes that support for his material needs made all the difference: "For Catholic Charities to step up and give [others] the hope that they need - and deliver the hope, not just give it to them - deliver it... it's just a matter of lifting people up in their time of need."
Restoring warm, running water was "a Godsend," according to Dan. "Catholic Charities was absolutely there for me," he says. "A great great organization. Just nice people and they were there when others weren't."
Dan, reflecting on hope in the face of disaster, emphasizes "hope is very important, not just for me - for everyone, and Catholic Charities stepped up to the plate and hit a home run."
