"I’m absolutely delighted; I’m so happy for [my son] Antonio."
Gil, a single father who has watched his four-year-old boy struggle through an extremely difficult path says he did not know what to do to help his speech-delayed son.
He had worked hard for the safety and custody of his son, Antonio, but he had no one to watch him so that he could go out to work.
"It was a long process and when I got custody, I went through Catholic Charities."
Antonio, age 4, suffers from speech delay which has been a difficult situation for the two of them to navigate before receiving help and support.
"At two years old, he only knew three words," Gil said. "At a minimum, a child that age should know 250; so, he couldn't speak."
After connecting with Catholic Charities, he says his life and that of his little one have completely changed for the better.
Antonio spends approximately eight hours a day at Catholic Charities Child Development Center located on Treasure Island in the city of San Francisco.
The amazing staff at Catholic Charities Treasure Island Child Development Center has helped Antonio so he can express himself more fluently.
"I have been paying for speech therapy with the help of the local school here at Catholic Charities. Now, he knows around 550 to 600 words."
Gil is proud of how far Antonio has come in his development and looking forward to his future.
"I’m absolutely delighted; I’m so happy for Antonio. I’ll be right there with him every step of the way—until he turns 21 and graduates from college."
